During our many visits to Kenya and East Africa we always take suitcases full of items to donate to those we meet and visit. Our first visit to Latika Primary School was to donate school items to the kids, pens, pencils writing pads etc. Like many schools conditions can be best described as basic. At this school the kitchen serves a meal of porridge to the kids and sadly in some cases, this is the only meal the kids get, poverty being unfortunately all too common in this area. No need for me to describe the kitchen the pictures and videos tell the story well enough.
The area is the Taita Hills, a mountain range located in the Taita-Taveta County in south-eastern Kenya. We were staying within the Lumo Conservancy at Lions Bluff Lodge. Sunworld Safaris and the Community Wildlife and Conservation run several projects for the kids at this and other schools and villages in the area and the team at Lions Bluff are only too happy to enable their guests to visit the nearby villages and schools.
