One of the largest and possibly finest ancient woodlands in Cornwall, to learn more detail about the reserve on Cornwall WildlIfe Trust webpage click on this link.
I visited the woods for the first time in mid April 2022 as part of a netwalking initiative run by the CWT. Whilst I love being alone in the woods most of the time it was great to hear all about the management of the reserve and also hear about the history of the site. One of our more ancient woodlands with several oaks thought to be over 500 years old and an area of the woods that was shaped by tin streaming. Who knew!
The blue bells were in full bloom on the south facing slopes, still more to come out int the more sheltered areas, and carpets of beautiful wood anemones. A visit later in the warmer months is a must to try to see some of the many butterfly species that visits these woods.
